For the first time in its history, donations to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation can now be made using digital currency.

The foundation, which relies largely on public donations to provide free care and treatment to wildlife, has partnered with the Gold Coast based digital currency, to offer the public a new way to donate.

Operating for 31 years within the grounds of the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, one of southern Gold Coast’s longest running tourism attractions, the hospital provides vital life-saving treatment to tens of thousands of animals each year.

“In 2020, we saw just under 14,000 wildlife patients from 274 different species, making us one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world,” Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation Marketing Director, Whitney Luzzo-Kelly, said today.

“One hundred percent of funds raised by the foundation goes directly to care for wildlife that come through the front doors and are returned to the wild.

“Just like an emergency room for people, wildlife come to us after a traumatic experience has happened. Our goal is to treat them as quickly as possible, stabilise them, rehabilitate them and return them to the wild.”

The hospital provides all diagnosis and treatment services on-site, including x-rays, blood work, ultrasounds, other diagnostic tests and surgery.

Animals can be dropped off 24/7 to the hospital by the public or their network of 200 wildlife carers. The hospital also has three ambulance and rescue vehicles.

“Our everyday impact area is a 2-2.5 hour radius of the hospital. Although, we’ve received and treated animals from as far as South Australia and Western Australia as we’re one of only four wildlife hospitals in Australia.

“The work our team does here is extraordinary. They’ll do anything within their power to save animals from as small as five grams to as large as 100 kilograms.

“Being less than thirty percent government funded, we largely rely on public donations. Our goal this year is to raise $1.5million to fund the hospital.

“We’ve partnered with Qoin to assist us in raising these vital funds.

“In addition to accepting digital currency donations, through Qoin, we’re offering behind the scenes tours, payable on Qoin.

“Our behind the scenes tours cost $500 for four guests and include tickets to the sanctuary for the day and a one-hour personal escorted tour of the hospital with a medical staff member.

“Guests get up close and personal to surgeries, procedures, x-rays, and our intensive care and rehabilitation units. They go behind the scenes where the public can’t go. It’s truly a money-can’t-buy experience.

“Our behind the scenes tours are perfect gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and other special events.

“Qoin has been hugely successful so far for the foundation.

“We’ve always considered ourselves the community’s hospital. Through Qoin, the community can support the work that we do and it’s kudos to Qoin that their business community is getting behind us.”
